Year R 

On Monday we had the pleasure of Fenland Music Centre visiting us to perform some nursery rhymes mixed into a story on a range of different instruments, we all listened with interest at the different sounds. In phonics we have reviewed all of the sounds learnt so far but particularly our set 3 sounds. Maths has been a challenge as we have been halving shapes and then numbers, but we have shown Raj Resilience and worked incredibly hard. In English, we have continued to use ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch’ as a stimulus for writing. We have story mapped it, thought about what gifts we could buy the characters and what we would like in our picnic baskets. Next week we are going to be innovating our own version of the story. On Wednesday we went on a lovely walk around the village where we saw dragonflies, minnows, other fish, ducks, swans and cygnets to name but a few of the amazing creatures we saw on our way. We have continued to look at floating and sinking in science and we have tried to learn the names of the oceans in geography. We are all incredibly tired now and need the two day rest to recharge ready for another exciting week in year R.  

 

Year 1  

A warm and busy week! In English we have been innovating a letter, changing it from ‘stop wasting electricity’ to ‘stop dropping litter’. In Maths we have been using <, > and = to compare numbers to 100 as well as ordering numbers from smallest to greatest and greatest to smallest. On Monday we were very lucky to have Fenland Music Centre come in and perform to a story called The Great Nursery Rhyme Disaster. They brought many instruments with them, some that we had never seen before. We particularly liked the tuba! On Wednesday we went on a village walk. We showed excellent behaviour on our walk and thoroughly enjoyed looking for different wildlife. 

 

Year 2      

We have had a hot busy week! In English we have been working on our presentation, use of capital letters and correct punctuation develop our sentences. In science the children worked together to create food chain developing their understanding of our topic vocabulary. In music this week we have continued our Reggae theme by listening and appraising ‘Shine’ by ASWAD. The children enjoyed identifying the instruments played in the song. We also, during music, played instruments and sang our focus song “Zoo Time”.  PSHE this week sees our focus change to Organisation.  We have discussed what it means to be organised and how we need to try and be organised in our everyday lives- something we can all strive to achieve! The children have their new spellings, for next week, in their reading diaries. 

We thoroughly enjoyed our walk through the village earlier this week for the Break Kids Walk.  

We have worked hard to practise our poem, song and our lines for our class assembly today. We hope you all enjoyed it as much as we have enjoyed preparing it for you.  

 

Year 3 

We have had a hot and sticky but a very busy week! In maths we have been working on 2-D shape, learning to identify horizontal and vertical sides and identifying when shapes have parallel and perpendicular sides. In English we have been working on using adverbs, conjunctions and prepositions to develop our sentences by adding in time, place or cause. In science the children worked together to create a pulley mechanism. In geography they found out and recorded information about what Germany is like. In PSHE our work was about self-esteem and confidence. We have continued with our programming unit using Scratch in computing. And the children have continued to practise their athletics skills in PE. 

 

Year 5 

This week has been slightly different for Year 5 as we have now started our extended transition to Year 6 so, Year 5 have been spending some mornings getting to know Mrs Johnson and have made a great start with some Maths work on number and place value. In the afternoons, we have been learning about the Atlantic passage in more detail and have been reading some snippets from a freed slave’s autobiography detailing their capture and journey to America. In art, we have started learning about West African art, specifically antelope headdresses worn by tribes in Mali, as they worship the spirit, Chiwara. In geography, we have started learning about the physical geography of East Anglia and the children have shared a lot of knowledge about the Fens already! We also thoroughly enjoyed our walk around the village on Wednesday morning for our Brake’s kids walk and we had some fantastic discussions around road safety!

Year 6 

This week I have been extremely impressed by the commitment Year 6 have shown to their learning, even with our extended transition starting for Year 5, Year 6 have continued to work hard with Miss Riches this week. On Monday, we were had a visit from Fenland Music Centre, who performed ‘The Nursery Rhyme Disaster’ and played a large variety of instruments for the children to enjoys and answered lots of questions. On Wednesday, we had a visit from PC Wise who spoke to the children about a number of issues relating to anti-social behaviour and peer pressure and what children can do if they feel unsafe or under pressure from others. In the afternoons, we have been working hard on our International Peace Poster competition entries. These will be judged on Monday afternoon by members of the Wisbech Lions and Academy Council.  

Don’t forget to fill out the FOSA form on our class story below for their ‘I’m a Year 6 Get Me Out of Here!’ Leavers events. This needs to be completed by Monday if you’d like to attend.
