Year R Weekly Round Up Archive

This week in Hoglets Class we have been learning about teeth and how to keep them clean and healthy. We have set up an investigation to find out what harm drinks do to our teeth, we hope the result will be in next week. We have continued to learn about things that grow, and we have learnt about the life cycle of a flowering plant. Our story for this week has been Jim and the beanstalk and we have written shopping list, letters and wish lists. In phonics we have learnt the u_e sound (you or oo) huge brute and the 'aw' sound yawn at dawn. Some of us produced fantastic still life drawings of some shells. Another busy week in Hoglets Class.

This week we have learnt some more set 3 sounds, i_e (nice smile) and o_e (phone home). In maths we have been learning about 10, making 10 in different ways. We have been working on Jack and the beanstalk, writing descriptions of the characters and creating 'wanted' posters. In science we have been learning about more life-cycles and this week we have some tadpoles in class to help us. During art time we have been using different materials and coloured paper to make a collage of a landscape. We had fun on the big bikes and play equipment too!

This week in Hoglets' Class we have been writing and illustrating our own versions of 'Rosie's Walk'. In maths, we have been using positional language to describe where things are, and continuing our learning of halving. We have also been experiencing first-hand and learning about the life-cycle of a chicken. Our rare breed chicken eggs hatched on Tuesday morning, and we have been carefully looking after and observing them ever since the first crack. We are now learning our set 3 sounds in phonics.
