Nature of Support 2017/18
At Upwell Academy we want all children to enjoy sport and physical activity.  We celebrate sporting achievements, whether achieved in school or outside of school.

 

During the academic year September 2017 to July 2018 we plan to spend our funding in the following areas:

High Quality Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for staff

Access to Downham Market Academy Cluster sporting events and EMAT events

Key Stage 1 and 2 after school clubs

High quality Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for staff

£9000 Employing a Primary PE specialist to work directly with classroom teachers across Reception to Year 6 to provide high quality, in-house professional development through observation and team teaching. To raise the quality of teaching in Physical Education and Sport.

Develop knowledge, skills and confidence to teach the whole child through sport.

 

PE coordinator to audit staff skills to develop a profile of CPD requirements.

 

PE coordinator to produce a plan for on-going CPD, including new members of teaching staff.

Teacher evaluation of input from PE specialist will be positive and lesson observations will be at least good.

 

Teacher confidence will show an increased confidence in teaching PE.

Young Leaders £180 To provide organised activities for younger children at lunch times. To skill year 5 children to deliver additional sporting opportunities outside of the school timetable

Omnes Games £330 All children to have the opportunity to represent Upwell Academy at a sporting event To increase pupil participation and range of inclusive activities. Children enjoy the range of sporting experiences and representing the school.
Real PE £2040 Teachers to be trained to deliver a scheme of work which is engaging and fun. To provide fun and simple to follow Schemes of Work and support for Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 (KS1) and Key Stage 2 (KS2) teachers – give them the confidence and skills to deliver outstanding PE. Teacher confidence and enthusiasm will show an increased confidence in teaching PE.

 

Pupil feedback towards PE will be positive

Access to Downham Market Academy Cluster and EMAT sporting events £1000 Participation in a wide range of sporting events, within the cluster and trust. Increased participation opportunities in competitive sport for all years in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 eg cross country, netball, swimming

 

This could include costs towards travel expenses and the equipment required to enable children to take part.

An increased number of children will take part in a range of competitions across the school. This will include competitions against other schools in the cluster, trust and also at County/Regional level.
Equipment and resources £500 Purchase of new Physical Education Equipment, and to replace old or damaged equipment. Audit of current sports equipment and purchase of new equipment that is appropriate for use in PE lessons and after school clubs Continue to use the skills taught through the Omnes Games programme.
Sports Safe UK £80 Annual safety inspection audit To ensure that PE equipment is safe for children to use. Replace equipment where identified
Healthy Eating workshops £300 To stress the importance of a healthy balanced diet. To show how healthy eating and exercise work together Lunch box contents will improve
